Protective Security Advisor – Western Missouri
U.S. Department of Homeland Security (Bio below)

Homeland Security Starts With Hometown Security

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) closely monitors attacks on public gatherings and public places to constantly enhance the Nation’s security. During both steady state and times of heightened awareness, DHS engages closely with our private sector and community partners to provide expert counsel and recommendations about protective measures they can implement to protect facilities and venues. DHS provides free tools and resources to communities because the Department recognizes that communities are the first line of defense in keeping the public safe and secure. The Department encourages businesses to Connect, Plan, Train, and Report. Applying these four steps in advance of an incident or attack can help better prepare businesses and their employees to proactively think about the role they play in the safety and security of their business and communities.

Mr. Mecum serves as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Protective Security Advisor (PSA) assigned to Western Missouri.  As a PSA, Mr. Mecum contributes to the development of the national risk picture by assisting with the identification, assessment, monitoring, and minimizing of risk to critical assets.  Mr. Mecum engages as a physical and technical security advisor with Federal, State, and local government mission partners and members of the private sector stakeholder community.  PSAs serve as the link to DHS infrastructure protection resources, coordinate “all-hazard” security and resiliency assessments, training, and provide a vital link for information sharing in steady-state and during incident response.  Mr. Mecum has over 17 years of experience in Law Enforcement, Security, and Emergency Operations through a combination of State, Federal, and military service.  Mr. Mecum holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Security Management, a Master of Arts in Homeland Security, and has earned board certification as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) by ASIS International.
